what happens if you delete whatsapp?

The simple answer is: ’nothing’ and thats pretty dumb in my opinion. Let me explain: The people I have been in contact with and the groups I was part of just don’t know that I deleted my account. They can still write me without getting notified that this message won’t be read by a human ever again. The groups that I have been part of just know that I ‘have left’ the group.

Why did I use whatsapp? Everybody and their grandma communicates in groups via whatsapp. In europe the messenger is dominating in market shares and now meta is harvesting the fruits by scraping and analysing chats with AI and place advertisements directly in the app. No, no, thank you, I’m out.

my last words before leaving:

Update 2025-08-03: After a few weeks I can now state that only two people that did not get the message where wondering why I was not answering and did decide to message me through other pipelines.
